Building for Cameroonian Cities: Our Engineering Philosophy

Low bandwidth, unreliable connectivity, multilingual users, mobile-first. Here is how we engineer for the realities of Cameroonian urban life.

Most technology companies build for ideal conditions: fast internet, high-end devices, continuous connectivity. Then they try to retrofit their product for markets where those conditions do not exist. We built Timway the other way around.

In Douala, average mobile internet speeds sit between 10 and 20 Mbps — fast enough, but with frequent drops during peak hours. Most users operate on mid-range Android devices with 3-4GB of RAM. Battery life is precious. Data is not free.
